Tending Eden: Loving the Home God Gave Us

by DIANE MCGEE on April 21, 2025

The Earth is more than soil and sky—it is a sacred gift. A living, breathing testament to God’s goodness. Every tree that stretches toward the sun, every stream that hums its own hallelujah, every bloom that opens without striving… they all remind us of Eden.

And while we may no longer walk among the untouched trees of the first garden, we carry its echo within us. Stewardship was part of our first calling. Before there was striving, before there was shame, there was a simple invitation: “tend and keep.”

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”—Genesis 2:15

This Earth Day, I don’t come with activism or urgency, though those voices have their place. I come with quiet remembrance. With awe. With the realization that every time we choose to care—really care—for the creation around us, we honor the One who crafted it.

Returning to What Was Always Good

We don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes returning is the most revolutionary act.

Return to slow living.
Return to less waste, more wonder.
Return to clean hands in garden soil, bare feet on morning grass.
Return to the beauty that asks for little but gives so much.

When we align our rhythms with creation’s, we begin to hear the harmonies again—the ones we were always meant to move with.

5 Gentle Ways to Give Back to the Garden

1. Plant Something Beautiful

A seed. A sapling. A single herb on a windowsill. Whether it grows roots in your yard or your heart, planting is a way of partnering with life itself.

2. Choose Wisely What You Bring Home

Support brands that care for creation. Use what you have. Opt for toxin-free, refillable, biodegradable, and fair-trade whenever you can. It’s not about perfection—it’s about intention.

3. Let Waste Become a Blessing

Composting is just another word for sacred return. Even your scraps have value. The cycle of life includes decay, and from it springs nourishment for the next season.

4. Worship Outside the Walls

Let the Earth be your sanctuary today. Take a walk. Say a prayer. Thank the trees. Bless the breeze. Let nature remind you that God is still speaking in whispers of wind and birdsong.

5. Give Generously to Regeneration

Support reforestation. Choose products that plant trees (like every Bliss Box does). Consider a donation to clean water or soil restoration projects. Every little act is a ripple.

A Final Word from the Garden Path

You don’t have to do it all. You only have to care.
Care enough to slow down.
Care enough to wonder.

Care enough to love this Earth the way He loved us—enough to craft every detail with delight.

Let your life be a soft return to Eden. A daily prayer of stewardship. A love letter written in compost, candlelight, and clean rivers.

The Earth is aching for caretakers, not consumers. For those who still believe in tending what is good.

And so, this Earth Day, I’ll be doing just that. With lavender in my hands and gratitude in my heart.

Will you join me?
